Miranda House College

About College

Miranda House is a college for women at the University of Delhi that was established in 1948. Miranda House offers degrees in the sciences and the liberal arts. The college has always maintained high academic standards. When the university was founded, only three colleges existed in Delhi at that time.

• There are about eighty-three colleges affiliated with the University of Delhi, spread out all over the state. Miranda college is one of them.
• Miranda House has always encouraged its students to interact and participate in diverse activities outside the classroom.
• Miranda House started with 33 students in July 1948 and now there are more than 3000 students in college.
• At the time of the founding, there were six departments and now there are eighteen departments in the college.
• The motto of the college is “Dedicated to the truth”.

International collaboration – In 2013 King's College London opened its first international Summer School in Delhi at Miranda House.

Facilities –

Hostel: Institute Hostel was also founded in the same year and has 120 rooms.

Library: The library consists of over 100000 books, hundreds of periodicals, and various newspapers.

Auditorium: College auditorium witnessed various famous events and has a seating capacity of 450 students.

Science Museum: The Life Science Departments maintain the Botany and Zoology Science Museums which house a comprehensive collection of preserved specimens of flora and fauna, biological samples, slides, and other resource materials.

Festivals -

• Tempest- An annual festival is a much-awaited event not just for Miranda House but for the entire University.
• Zenith - Zenith is the annual festival of Arthashastra, Economics Society of Miranda House.

Scholarship –

• Delhi University has several scholarship schemes for meritorious and financially needy students. Some of the schemes for undergraduate courses are as follows:
• Prof. J. C. Luthra Shrimati Kesra Bai Luthra Endowment Scholarship: One each in the first year of Botany, Zoology, Physics or Chemistry Hons. (in such a way that as f., as possible 50% are women recipients ) for, students passing second, school examination not below high second class (Rs 100/-pm each).
• Shrimati Kesra Bai Luthra Memorial Scholarship: One to a mcritmious and needy student joining the Ist year of B.Sc. Honors in Botany or, Zoology after passing out from Delhi Central Board with at least high second division. (Rs. l00/-p.m.).
• Dr. Shrimati V. Hora Endowment Scholarship: One to a student who passed Our from Delhi Central Board with a first division and joins the B. Sc. Zoology Honours and is in need of financial assistance to pursue her studies. (Rs. 100/-p.m.).
• Delhi University Women’s Association Scholarship: awarded to two deserving and needy students (who are daughters of jawans) who have passed from Delhi Central Board and join the first year. (Rs.100/-p.m. each).
