Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli was established by The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MOP&NG), Government of India, through an Act of Parliament (Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Act 2007). RGIPT has been accorded the eminence of being an “Institute of National Importance” along the lines of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
The Institute is empowered to award degrees in its own right. RGIPT is co-promoted as an energy domain specific institute by six leading Oil Public Sector Units (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in association with the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB). The Institute is associating with leading International Universities/Institutions specializing in the domain of Petroleum Technology. The prime objective of the Institute is to provide world class education, training, and research to roll out efficient human resources to meet the growing requirements of the Petroleum & Energy sector.

RGIPT has an ambitious plan—to offer a number of Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree programs, PG diploma courses and Doctoral programs in Petroleum Technology and Management in phases. From the academic year 2008-2009, RGIPT has been imparting the MBA program and two Technical programs.

‘KALTARANG' is the annual cultural festival of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), RaeBareli, and is organised by its students. This year, the event was held from 21st to 23rd February.

RGIPT is being established on a 125 acres site located in Jais, Distt. Rae Bareli (U.P.) on state highway connecting the towns of Sultanpur and Rae Bareli and is around 27 kilometers from Rae Bareli.

What is the minimum eligibility for admission?
Admission will be based on JEE (Advanced) - 2016 Rank List. The candidate should have 60% minimum aggregate marks (55% in case of SC/ST/Physical Disability) in class 10+2 or equivalent.
