Harcourt Butler Technical University is a government technical university that was named after Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, governor of the United Provinces in British India. It is one of the oldest engineering institutions of India that was establishes in 1921 and holds the ISO 9001:2000 certification. It is considered one of the most reputed college of Uttar Pradesh and among the top 50 engineering colleges of the country to offer bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in the same field. It also offers Masters degrees in Business Administration and Computer Applications.
The university is located in the northen part of the city near the Kanpur Zoo in Nawabganj, Uttar Pradesh that is spread across 2 campuses of 77 and 271 acres. Facilities inside the campus include a central library with various books, resources, national and international journals, cafeteria, auditorium, workshop, computer centee, playground for various sports such as badminton, football, cricket, etc, medical center and guest house. The university has dedicated hostels for in both east and west campuses for boys and girls seperately. For various development projects, the university has also received aid from the World Bank that will be spent on infrastructure developlment, lab equipment, funding for research and lectures attended by faculty in foreign universities and community development and overall growth.
NOTE: Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) was formely known as the Harcourt Butler Technical Institute (HBTI) as per the Act No. 11 of 2016 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Cultural Sub Council:
It is concerned with exploring the cultural talents among the students and it helps them in grooming them. National level events (TAAL and ODYSSEY) are organized by this club.

It organizes various discussions, debates, workshops events. Here, students become aware of the culture of different societies and worlds which helps them in grooming intellectually and personally.

It imbibes the passion and love for the great form of expressions and creating opinions through experience and reflection.
