About College

Madras Christian College (MCC), Chennai established in 1837 as a School in the black town of Madras. The Institution was built and its character shaped by a host of Scottish missionaries such as Anderson and Miller, Hogg and Boyd.  Many dedicated Indian teachers as well as generations of brilliant students contribute to its success story. The college is known as much for its academic standing and leadership building as it is for social commitment.

• Today the College has more than 5000 students (both ladies and gentlemen as they are traditionally called) and over 220 faculty members serving in 31 departments.
• It is a matter of pride that the institution is ranked among the Top Ten Liberal Arts and Science Colleges in India and also received the Rating of A+ (equivalent to 90-95%) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Student Activities:

"Human Rights and Value Education" and all activities are centered to give this perspective to the students. These activities include:

• SEWA organizes various programmes, which enhances the skill development among students
• Study Tour – International exposure is given to the students to learn and understand the growth of Social Profession from a Global Perspective
• Working with Family Life Institute, an Extension Centre for the Department of Social Work, where our Students are placed for Internship

Library

Festival:

• Deepwoods, which is an inter-collegiate Cultural Festival. Typically held each year in February, it is a three-day event with various colleges from all over the country participating. Over 70 colleges from Chennai and other cities in India are participants in the event, bringing together over 30,000 people.
• Symban meaning big event is a intercollegiate Physics fest organized by the department of Physics (SFS) in order to promote learning and understanding of the basic concepts of Physics.
