Entrance Exam & Admissions
You will have to give GAT - GITAM Admission Test, which we the alums generally call it Guarantee Admission Test. So how bad you perform you will get some or the other department seat in one of its three branches (Vizag, Hyderabad and Bangalore). But I advice you to take Visakhapatnam branch. Or CSE/ECE/any branch little coding is taught can be chosen in Hyderabad/Bangalore as well. Exam is in average difficulty.

Placements in IT sector can only be expected from the university and that too from Vizag. I am not much sure about Hyderabad or Bangalore because I belong to GITAM Vizag. But geographically Hyderabad or Bangalore can also be chosen if you are interested in IT sector jobs. Please do not expect core engineering field placements. You can hardly expect core company placements for Civil, Mechanical, ECE, EEE, EIE, Biotechnology, Industrial. If you are interested ta take any of the above departments, then please do also get ready for no core company placements. There no guarantee for the toppers of the departments as well to get a core company placement.
Fees & Scholarships
Fee is too high. I think currently it is more than 2 Lakhs and that too just for the college fee. Think that you have to add Hostel fee, your maintenance expenses(since it is GITAM, you have to maintain a minimum quality lifestyle. Books, Transportation, Food, Clothes, Gadgets, Lifestyle accessories, your extra curricular activity expenses :P etc.). I think a scholarship of just INR.10,000/- is given to only 3 three students in department for academic excellence with a clause that your family's income should be way lower than that of your college fee, which is more than 2 lakh per year. So, to earn a scholarship of INR.10,000/- per semester, you literally have to pay more than 2 lakhs of college fee, be one of the toppers in the department and also in parallel expect your family income to be way low, which doesn't make a proper sense at all. Naam ke vasthe scholarships.
Academics & Faculty
Academic quality is ok. But its main focus is not research oriented. Forget research. The lessons are taught only with the focus of examination pattern. Few professor classes are really frustrating for the way they teach on projector screens. Screen ke upar points daalo aur wohi padoo. Bass class hogaya. The main focus of theirs and with them ours is only to get a degree.
College Infrastructure
WIFI is at best standard compared to any other colleges in India. Labs - OK. Library - Way too small for the student strength. Sports complex - Way too small for student strength (More competition than a Tatkal ticket reservation). Gym - Are you kidding? You'll find equipment from the ancestral times.
Food Services & Hostel
Hostel is good. But security overact as if they are doing Border Security Force job. Hostel food - I can give 4.5 star rating. Best food. Mess, cleanliness and furniture are all good. But the problem is the rent is taken per month, which is again very very unreasonable value for the facilities given. It depends on building to building. Starts from basic price of INR.7000 per month - Three Sharing and common toilets and goes upto INR.15000 per month.
