About College
Basanti Devi College, Kolkata was established in 1959. It is a premier undergraduate institution for girls affiliated to the University of Calcutta as one of the first sponsored colleges by the Government of West Bengal under scheme 2F of the UGC. IGNOU, Basanti Devi College Convergence Program is initiated in 2008 with an intention to merge the traditional class room based studies with distant learning mode under one roof. The main goal of the college is to equip the enrolled students with, academic degrees, and to help them to develop a sense of self respect and self reliance, empowerment and emancipation, irrespective of the social strata of their origin.

- NAAC sponsored workshop and seminar on students support and progression coordinated by the IQAC team
- UGC sponsored National seminar on surrogacy in India
- National Service Scheme
- Women awareness program by rupantaran an NGO
- International Disability Day walk by students in collaboration with “Beautiful Minds”
- Annual sports day is organized in the month of December every academic year
- Annual social is held in jaunuary. Students take part in various activities like music, dance, recitation etc
Cells:
- Psychological Councelling cell- There is a workshop on stress management in collaboration with jadavpur centre for counseling and studies in self development
- Remedial Cell- Seminar on reservation with relevance with Indian socio-economic scenarioin collaboration with Indian Institute of Public administration
- Legal counseling cell- It is in collaboration with West Bengal state Legal Aid Service
- Grievance Redressal cell- There is a cell for grievance redressal
- Anti-Harassment and Anti-Ragging cell- There is a cell in the college to prevent students from ragging and harassment

- Library has a rich collection of more than 28000 books

College Achievements:
- The social service unit of the college, MAITREE (an U.G.C sponsored programme), has successfully continued its social welfare activity with the help of interested students by directly involving them in voluntary, rural community services
- The college has also been successful in continuing the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (DEAS), which is a programme to recognize the all-round self-improvement of the students
