Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU) was established under Tamil Nadu Fisheries University Act, 2012. The university offers Bachelor & Master courses in Fisheries Science, Post Graduate Diploma courses in Fish Quality Management and Research courses in Aquaculture, Fisheries Biology and Capture Fisheries, Fisheries Resources & Economics and Fish Processing Technology
- The university has numerous research involved in various activities such as Experiential learning unit of freshwater aqua farming, Establishment of Fish Feed, Quality Testing Laboratory, Evaluation of culture algal powder for its use in aquafeeds, Ornamental Fish Culture etc.
- The university has numerous awareness programmes including Lobster trap, Squid jigging, FADs ( Fish Aggregating Devices) and Hygienic handling of fishery products for export trade

Admission in Tamil Nadu Fisheries University Fisheries Engineering Candidates should belong to Tamil Nadu State and must be below the age of 21 as on 1st of July of the concerned year. For SC/SCA/ST candidates, there is no age limit & Candidates should possess the Higher Secondary Course (10+2)/CBSE/any other examination recognized as equivalent with 60 percent.
