About College

Jesus and Mary College (JMC), New Delhi, was established in 1968 as a constituent college of University of Delhi. 

  • This institute is run by the Sisters of Jesus and Mary Congregation which was originated in France in 1818.

  • It was founded by a noble lady St. Claudine Thevenet. The College began with vision of educating young women to help them bring about development in themselves, their society & homes.

  • The Institute has been imparting higher education in the Arts and Commerce fields.

  • JMC is constantly striving to achieve high academic by organizing seminars, conferences, talks, symposiums, and workshops for teachers, students & non-teaching staff.

Student's Societies:

AICUF: - (All India Catholic University Federation)

  • AICUF is a national level university student’s movement that stands for the service and liberation of all persons. The AICUF annually has approximately 500 student members.

  • The Christian spirit of joy in working together is communicated throughout the year by means of various fun activities like carnivals, prayer meetings, music fests, and inter-departmental activities.

Mudra Society:

  • Mudra is the Western Dance society that stands for energy, vibrance, and passion. Passion for love, life, and most of all DANCE.  The Society has 24 members drawn from various courses of study now.

Fine Arts Society

  • The society was established in the early 1970s was known as the 'Paint and Brush Society'. In the early 1980s, the society's name was changed to 'Fine Arts Society'. The Society presently having more than 100 members.

  • The society organizes events like A 'Talent Hunt' which is held at the commencement of the academic session to explore the budding artists. This is followed by a number of Fine Arts Competitions - Poster-making, Sketching, Card-making, Calligraphy, Folder-making, Cartooning in which students participate in large numbers.

Dastaan: The Art and Architecture Society:

  • Dastaan restarted in the year 2012. It is open to students interested in Art and Architecture.

  • The Society organizes talks of the Arts and also conducts heritage walks. The Society conducted Dastangoi in collaboration with History Department for Chronicle’13 and a Poetry Declamation competition during Montage ’13.

Film Appreciation Society:

  • The Film Appreciation Society of JMC is a microcosm of the real world, a space where people of different likes and dislikes, beliefs, and ideologies come together to share a cinematographic experience.

  • The society holds regular movie and documentary screenings of different genres, notices of which are put up on the society board and on the board outside the principal’s office.

English Debating Society:

  • The debating society was set up more than two decades before. The Society has 25 members

  • There are many events, key events include An annual parliamentary debating tournament called Kremlin, An intra-debating competition called Ad Shroff, and An inter-college convention.

Photography Society:

  • The Photography Society was established in 2009 and has 18 members.

Western Music Society:

  • ECHO the Western Music Society of the College which was set up in 2006. The Society has 20 members

Hindi Quiz Society:

  • Hindi Quiz Society organizes quizzes that are conducted in Hindi. Participants are quizzed on varied topics ranging from Hindi & English literature to science, current affairs, politics, history, fine arts, movies, etc.

Facilities:-

Library:

  • The JMC library provides students a wide range of scholarly journals and books, growing digital media collections, and other printed materials to support research and learning.

  • The Library is housed in a three-floor building. The well-organized & maintained, fully computerized library has approximately 50,000 books and bound journals, a total sitting capacity of about 180.

 Sports:

The College provides sporting activities within a 15-acre campus. There are provisions and equipment for more than 10 different sports. Students have participated in National and International events and won prizes.
