PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research was established in the year 1985 by P.S Govindaswamy Naidu & Son’s Charities. The college is recognized by Medical Council of India, General Medical Council of UK and Srilankan Medical Council. The college offers Bachelor, Master and Research Programmes

• It is the first teaching hospital in Tamil Nadu and the third teaching hospital in India to get NABH accreditation
• PSG Hospitals is a 810 bedded
• The hospital houses various specialties such as Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Anaesthesiology, Radiology and Emergency medicine

• Project on “Development of an Atlas of Cancer in India” in collaboration with NCRP- supported by WHO, aided by ICMR – Dept. of Pathology, PSG IMS & R
• “Cervical Cancer prevention and the comparative Evaluation of single versus double Freeze Cryotherapy techniques in the treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia” under the auspicies of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, Lyon, France
• The effect of garlic oil on lipid peroxidation and blood cell counts of arsenic 
  exposed albino mice
• Problem Solving for Better Health – Student Research for action project funded by HAP
• Reproductive Child Health Projects in 10 villages funded by GOI / FPAI from 2000
• Effect of Yoga on Training on Cardio-Respiratory Functions in Normal Young Male

Extra-Curricular:

• Frequent medical camps are organized at outlying rural and tribal areas and treatment offered is free
• The institution maintains several rural and urban health centres
• Students participate in various sports basketball, volleyball, tennis, Kho-kho, ball badminton, handball, throw ball, Table tennis, chess etc.

Library:

• The college has well-equipped library with seating capacity of 280 readers. There are about 15,000 text books (regular and reference) and 4500 back volumes
• 392 foreign journals (including 250 online versions) and about 100 Indian journals are subscribed
• The library media centre offers MEDLARS SERVICE (a medical and allied health data base), International Pharmaceutical Abstracts Service, Proquest online database and regular internet service
