Kasturba Medical College was the first private medical college in India established in the year 1953. In the beginning years, the college provided only pre-clinical courses and for clinical training had to go Mangalore. In 1969, Medical College has introduced clinical program & become full- fledged independent college. It has got recognition in 1958 by Medical Council of India & in 2008 from Government of India.The college focuses on creating highly qualified professionals to the serve the nation.

Students from 44 countries have graduated from KMC, and the medical degree (MBBS) is recognized worldwide, including by the General Medical Council and ECFMG

Student Achievements: Three postgraduates of Clinical Embryology at KMC Manipal won awards for Best Research Papers 2013 at the 18th National Congress of Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) held in Rourkele, Odisha.
Sam Sudhakaran won the Dr Asha Rao Award for Best Oral Paper for the paper entitled “Effect of different ovarian tissue cryopreservation methods on oocyte methylation status”
Sandesh Patel won the Dr Poornima Nadakarni Award for Best Poster Presentation for the paper entitled “Biotin enhances sperm motility in asthenozoospermic subjects and developmental potential of embryos”
Sonu T Lukose won the Dr Asha Rao Award for Second Best Poster Presentation for the paper entitled “Liposomes of soya lecithin and cholesterol as extenders in cryopreservation of testicular sperm”

Kasturba Medical College was awarded as the best College in the Medical category at the World Consulting and Research Corporation Leaders’ inaugural Asian Education Excellence Summit in New Delhi on January 9, 2014.
Dr Guruprasad Kalthur, Clinical Embryology at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal was selected for the Award for Research Publication (ARP) for 2012-13 by the Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Department of IT, BT, Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, for his recent publication in an international journal.
Dr Pramod Kumar, Department of Plastic Surgery, was conferred the Safdarjung NABI Professorship Award 2012 by the National Academy of Burns, India, for his recent research work in burn care
