Government Medical College, Kottayam was established in 1960. The college affiliated to Mahathma Gandhi University. It offers Bachelor, Master and Diploma courses in Medical Science

• In 1973, the Post graduate courses (MS Surgery & MD Medicine) started
• In 1965, the MC Health Centre at Ettumanoor was established
• The college enrolled 150 students in MBBS
