About College

Government Medical College, Jammu, is counted among one of the best institutes of J&K. It was established in 1973 with the main objective to impart quality education along with delivering the full health care services to the people.

• This institution was initiated with the sole purpose to train fifty MBBS students annually & to serve as referral for Jammu hospital.
• Presently, the seating volume has been rise up to 150 students annually. Addition to MBBS course the college also offers Post-graduate training Course.
• Initially it was started up with a total of 900 beds & presently, it has increased to 1700 beds comprising related hospitals together with Sir. Col. R.N.Chopra Nursing Home.
• The college has an animal house with 40-50 animals in college building for the practice of students of PG's & UG's.

Govt Medical College Jammu conducts M.B.B.S courses for the Undergraduate students and a variety of higher courses for the Post-graduate students. Over the years, GMC, Jammu has increased its intake and made rapid changes to improve medical education. The courses offered and the education given is of the highest standards and the best ones offered anywhere in the world.

The students organize numerous cultural events throughout the academic year. These events promote brotherhood & encourage students to showcase their talent. Some of them are:

• Annually, Cultural week is prearranged which includes dance, fine arts, drama, music & literary activities like quiz, debate, essay writing etc. Additionally, fresher night is held for the new students.
• Students bring out the annual magazine with Hindi/Urdu/Dogri & English sections "JASCAL" and "SYNAPSE", which offer them and chance to reveal their literary ideas & writing skills.

GMC, Jammu is well maintained with several spacious facilities to bring a friendly environment for education. Some of facilities offered are: 

Auditorium

The college has auditorium which can hold up to 830 students at a time & is located in the 3rd & 4th floor of Administrative block.

Central Computer Cell

A Central Computer Cell has established in administrative Block & the full work of the college is done on computers (online)

Central Library

Central library of the college houses reference section, one teacher section, one journal section & reading hall with the overall seating capacity of 100 students. Around 329 (Indian and Foreign) journals are subscribed every year for the research work.

Hostels

The college has facilitated the hostel accommodation for Under-graduates & Post-graduates with the capacity of 549 rooms. It has three stored with 2 blocks for girls & 3 stored with 3 blocks for boys.

Sports

The Institute lays more emphasis on maintaining the health & intellectual level of students together for better academic results. Therefore, college has provided indoor & outdoor games facilities like

Every year, the college organizes sports meets to boost & enthusiast the students. Certification & medals are awarded to the winners.
