About College

Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (G.S.V.M), Kanpur, known for its academic excellence world over, is named after Late Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, a great freedom fighter.

• G.S.V.M. Medical College is situated in the heart of the historic & industrial city of Kanpur.
• This is the first medical college of U.P. established in independent India, forming a landmark in the annals of medical education in the state of U.P. 
•  It is one of the five medical colleges in India established under the second five year plan.
• The college has earned a National and International fame for its excellent research work & teaching.

This Medical College has a sprawling campus with hospital and college sections accommodated in huge buildings. The main college building looks like a huge palace and is the biggest amongst all medical colleges in U.P. The main hospital  constitutes the biggest patient care center in Asia.

The college has a large and distinguished faculty to support its missions of education, research, and clinical care. The college aims at a complete and comprehensive teaching and training of medical students along with their character building. The college is playing a major role in providing health services in Kanpur & adjoining districts.

Facilities :

The facilities offered by the college include Hostel, Library, Guest House and several others.

Hostel :

There are 9 hostels for medical students and resident doctors and one for Diploma in Pharmacy students of this college.

• Single seated, double seated and tetra seated rooms are available.
• The hostel provides hygienic food and facility for recreation.
• The hostels are divided as P. G. Boys Hostel, New Resident Hostel, U. G. Girls Hostel, P.G. Girls Hostel and Pharmacy Hostel.

Library :

The central library has a large & new collection of textbooks and reference books.

• It subscribes to a large number of National and International journals.

•  Total no. of books in the library are 19000 and back volume of journals from 1962 to 1998.
• The library is having Internet facility and Broad band internet connection.

Guest House :

The college has a guest house for guests and examiners. It is attached to Principal bungalow.A green lawn increases its beauty. It is equipped with facilities like refrigerator, Airconditioner, Inverter, Crockery etc.Some other facilities include sports, lecture theatre, auditorium, staff club, gems association international etc.

This medical college is committed to the dissemination and advancement of knowledge in various specialties of medical science and establishing itself as a centre of excellence.

•  It is ranked fourth among the medical colleges in India. 
• Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital (LLR) which was earlier known as Hallet Hospital is associated with GSVM.
