National Research Centre for Orchids (NRCO) situate at Pakyong, Sikkim was established by Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) during the 8th five year plan based on the recommendations of the Planning Commission keeping in the view of the export potential of Orchids. The college was inaugurated by the Director of the ICAR. Since its inception the centre is undertaking mission oriented research programme on crop improvement, production and harvest management.
