National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology is situated in Kolkata. It is a premier institute that was established in 1939 under Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and is dedicated to the research of jute and allied fibres leading to the diversified use and industrial growth. The institute aims at carrying out basic and technological research on jute and allied fibres, to promote production of good quality fibres and to upgrade the fibre and the product quality. The institute is adequately equipped with the state of the art laboratories having sophisticated instruments, equipments, machinery, workshop, library, museum, pilot plant along with guest house on the adjoining campus of staff quarters. The institute offers graduate and post graduate level degree courses and is a reputed institute in the country.
