National Institute of Ayurveda was established in 1976 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India with the aim of promoting the growth and development of Ayurveda and to produce Graduates and Post-Graduates in all Branches of Ayurveda. The Institute is engaged in Teaching, Clinical, Teaching and Research at Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and Ph.D. level and is affiliated to Rajasthan Ayurveda University, Jodhpur. It is the first of its kind institute in India having a national character and international repute. National Institute of Ayurveda is an autonomous institute under the Department of AYUSH that was set up as a model Institute for evolving high standards of teaching, training, research and patient care and also to invoke scientific outlook to the knowledge of Ayurvedic System of Medicine.

International Collaborations- The Institute is involved in various international activities like responsibility in the setting up of Ayurveda Chair in the Jeonju University of South Korea and Study Chairs of Ayurveda in Germany and South Africa
International Training- National Institute of Ayurveda also gives foreign exposure to the students by offering training in Ayurveda for 3-6 months in Sri Lanka.
