About College

The National Institute of Technology Agartala, shortened to NITA, is a technology-oriented institute of higher education established by India's Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in Agartala, India. It was founded as Tripura Engineering College in 1965 and declared a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in 2006.

  • On 23 February 2006, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal of the state government for the conversion of Tripura Engineering College to National Institute of Technology, a fully Central Government funded Institution with Deemed to be University status. It also became a National Centre of Excellence.
  • NIT Agartala is one of the fastest-growing NIT
  • The college campus is nearly 500 acres
  • It was initially affiliated with Calcutta University
  • The nearest railway station is about 2 km away
  • Mission of the Institute is "to help to improve the economic development of the country particularly the North-East states and also the public systems, through pursuit of excellence in technical education, research, consultancy, and training".
  • The Institute is now known as a knowledge hub, with the introduction of more specialized subjects like hydro informatics and aeronautics.
  • NIT Agartala is the first NIT in India to have a Kendriya Vidyalaya within the Campus itself
  • Motto of the college is “Igniting talent propelling dreams achieving reality”

Research -. NIT Agartala students made what they called the "world's cheapest car", costing less than Rs 8500. A group of students working on the production, using only scraps, built a two-stroke petrol car. This is the first time a chain sprocket system and steering were used in the car mechanism.

Festivals –

  • Aayam – It is an annual tech fest that is organized by the third-year undergraduate students. Aayam 2012 included a lecture by Udaya Kumar who is the designer of Indian rupee sign.
  • Moksha – It is a cultural fest that is organized by the third-year undergraduate students. The three-day resplendence strikes a distinctive symphony in the chord of the cultural fabric of arts and imagination.
  • Annual-  Final year students presented a cultural night.
  • Sankalp- It is a techno-cultural fest.

Extracurricular Activities –

The students actively participate in all co-curricular activities like games and sports, debate, cultural-functions, essay competition, drama competition, rallies on various themes, NSS programs, etc. being sponsored by the State Government and other statutory bodies and by the Institute authority.
