About College

Punjab Technical University has created a unique identity in Technical Education Industry. The University imparts education to almost 5 lakh students in various fields of education, in which 50 percent of students are coming from the different corners of our country. The Campus provides a very good environment for students as they can complete their higher education without any obstacles.

• Located at Jalandhar-Kapurthala highway, Jalandhar in Punjab. The campus is 14 km away from Jalandhar Railway Station and 83 km far from the Jalandhar Bus Stand.
• In 1997, PTU began its journey under the Punjab Technical University Act, 1996 (Punjab Act No. 1 of 1996). The main objective of the university to promote and develop technical education in the state of Punjab.
• At first, there were 9 engineering colleges and few management colleges under PTU. After 15 years of inception, The University has 100+ affiliated engineering colleges, 37 institutes of Pharmacy Education, 139 Management and Computer application courses, 11 colleges of Hotel Management education, and 6 colleges of Architecture Education.
• There are 21 Regional Centre for M.Tech and Ph.D. in various branches of Management and Engineering and 1 Regional Centre providing a Master degree in Pharmacy.
• Punjab Technical University is recognized by University Grant Commission.
• PTU is accredited by AICTE.

Collaboration

The University is pursuing international collaborations with various established universities and institutions to provide better research facilities, opportunities, projects, and exposures to its students at a global level.  

• It has collaborated with San Jose State University, U.S.A; Waiariki Institute of Technology, New Zealand; Dongguk University, Korea and the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). In the near future, PTU is looking forward to more such fruitful alliances.
• PTU offers various opportunities in collaboration with IIT Delhi, like a project of RUTAG Rural Technology Action Group for the development of rural technologies through Engineering Colleges and Local NGOs.

Library:

• The three-floored in-housed P.T.U library is totally interconnected with centralized air-condition facilities
• The Library can accommodate 500 readers at a time
• The library has a huge collection of 2000 books on government publications, statistical reports, conference proceedings, and various study materials
• Non-fiction and fiction both types of books are available
• There are a precious collection of 1000 research and Ph.D. thesis papers which provides much vital information

Sports:

• Sports always make a man well-mannered. PTU arranges many sports activities for students as they can rejoice themselves
• There are facilities for outdoor games like Cricket, football, handball, basketball, hockey and indoor games like chess
• Powerlifting and swimming facilities are also available
• Coaching and training for games and exercises have been provided for girls and boys separately

Awards

• Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) awarded PTU as the best Technical University,2013
• PTU awarded as ICT enabled the University of the Year and Open & Distance Learning Initiative of the Year Award by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Govt. of India at Hyderabad on August 5, 2010

Scholarships

• PTU offers a number of schemes for students including SC/ST welfare schemes, in which no fee is to be paid by the SC/ST students. Besides it also successfully executes different schemes of Punjab Government.
• The university also offers free ship scheme for students who come from economically weaker sections (EWS).
• It also offers various scholarship schemes like GATE Scholarship, JRF & SRF Scholarships, UGC/Net Schemes & Scholarships, Research Grants, Research and Development projects, etc.
• Guru Harkrishan Educational society scholarship scheme.
• Maulana Azad National Scholarship Scheme for Meritorious Girl Students belonging to Minority.
