About College
Tata Institute of Social Sciences, also known as TISS is a social sciences institute with its main campus based in Mumbai. TISS was established in 1936, as the Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work, the first school of social work in India. It was renamed to its current name in 1944:
- Recognized as a Deemed University in 1964 by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC)
- TISS has earned recognition as an institution of repute from different Ministries of the Government of India and various State Governments, as well as international agencies such as the United Nations, and the non-government sector, both national and international
- Featured alumni: Mohd. Tarique, Member of Working Group on Urban Poverty, National Advisory Council
- TISS also operates out of campuses in Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Tuljapur

Festival:
Manthan is the annual festival of this Institute which is attended by participants coming from various B-Schools such as FMS, IIT-D, IIT-B, SP Jain, MICA, NITIE, KJ Somaiyya, IRMA, XLRI, IIM-A, IIT-KGP, MDI-HR, SCMHRD, and many more.
Facilities:
Computer Center The Computer Centre was established with the aid of the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR). It provides training in data processing to research scholars and has been recognized by the ICSSR as a Centre for Consultancy in Data Processing and Analysis.

Library: The Sir Dorabji Tata Memorial Library (SDTML)
- About 1,20,000 volumes, and subscribes to over 8,500 print and e-journals
- Prominent among them are SAGE Online, JSTOR, Emerald Management Xtra, EBSCO Business Source Premier, indiastat.com (statistical database), GALE Virtual Reference Library (e-books), Net Library eBooks Collection, India Business Insight Database, etc.
- Over 290 scholarly print journals and receives another 80 journals on exchange and gratis
- About 1600 audio-visual materials
- It also has in possession a small collection of rare and out of print books on social reform movements and biographies of Social Reformers
- Being a digital library system, it is recognized as a National Document Delivery Centre in the field of Social Sciences by the University Grants Commission. TISS Digital Library hosts about 1,300 documents

Hostel TISS campus hosts six hostels, four on the main campus and two in Malti and Jal A.D. Naoroji Campus Annexed. The hostels can accommodate approximately 500 students. Each room in the hostel is provided with a bed, a mattress, a table, a chair, and a cupboard. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

Gymkhana The Gymkhana of TISS, located on the main campus, is a two-story building and has space for a well-equipped Gymnasium and space for Yoga. There is a fully-fledged indoor badminton court, two very popular table tennis boards, and other indoor games like carom.

The Counseling Center The Counselors help the students in their day-to-day concerns and also enhance their overall functioning. Workshops on topics relevant to increasing the capacities of the students are regularly conducted by the Counselors. The Counselors also maintain a notice board where posters, charts, and cartoons pertaining to various issues are exhibited. The e-mail is yet another medium of communication for the students and the Counselors.
