About College

The Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University has proved to be an asset for the people of the country in general and the people of Maharashtra in particular. The university has made immense contributions towards the enhancement and growth of the society by providing educational opportunities to all strata of the society.

• The university was established in the year 1983 on the propitious Maharashtra Day and also the Worker’s Day on the 1st of May
• It has been recognized by the UGC as well u/s 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956 and also got the accreditation form NAAC and AICTE
• The SGBAU has its jurisdiction over the Western Vidarbha areas that encompass five districts namely Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, Buldhana and Washim.
• It is also an esteemed member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities of London, UK
• There are 10 faculties in the university including Arts, Science, Medicine, Biotechnology, Law, and Social Science and so on
• A total of 325 colleges are there under the affiliation of the university imparting higher education to all sections of society
• “Education for the Salvation of Soul” is the motto that the university follows and works upon and infuses this thought amongst the students as well
• The main mission of the university is to endeavor for the apprehension and achievement of the goals that were revered by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
• It is on a mission to create opportunities for the downtrodden class and the weaker section of society – both financially and morally – to come up and have their dreams fulfilled
• To create equal opportunities is another aim the university looks to achieve and has done so to a large extent since its inception.

There are a range of varied courses offered by the university that the students can pursue according to their choice and succeed in the respective fields. Some courses might be mentioned as:

The importance of physical agility and moral consciousness has been realized well by the university and hence it provides ample opportunity for the students to engage in co-curricular activities like:
•    Inter- University Sports Tournaments and a number of sporting events being organized such as badminton, cricket etc.
•    The NSS wing of the university also encourages students to participate in social activities 
•    The university has the NCC unit as well in which the students take part in numbers
•    The students’ welfare department of the university also organizes Personality Development Camps, Orientation Camps for the students
•    It has also been successful in implementing the Village Adoption Scheme
