Captain Awadhesh Pratap Singh University was established in the year 1968. It is an autonomous university named after freedom fighter Captain Awadhesh Pratap Singh. University has 65 affiliated colleges in Rewa, Sidhi, Satna, Sandhol and Umariya besides 21 sanskrit colleges and 85 sanskrit schools. The university has campus spread over 246 acres in the North Rewa city. University has been a member of Association of Indian Universities and All Commonwealth Association of Universities. University is recognized by UGC.

Computer Center: It was established in 1985-86 under the UGC sponsorships in order to provide career oriented computer courses to students. Currently it has 60 pentium IV systems, 3 servers, printers and other devices.

Distance Education Center: The University provides students in remote areas to pursue their studies through distance education.

Achievements:

• Prof. K.B. Pandey received the Sir P.C. Ray Memorial Medal and Lectureship in the year 1098. He went on to win another for the following year (1990). He won the Prof. P.K. Bose Memorial Medal and Lectureship
• The MPCST Young Scientists Award and Project for Young Scientists from DST (New Delhi) went to Dr. D.S. Pandey. The year was 1990
• The celebrated and envious UNESCO fellowship for 1990-91 was received by Dr. V.K. Agrawal
• The very prestigious and prominent, the President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal went to Dr. Atul Pandey. It was a very proud moment for him as well for the University
