Kannur University was established in the year 1996 to provide higher education in state of Kerala. It was established in under the Act no. 22 of 1996 of Legislative Assembly of Kerala. University was inaugurated on 2 March 1996 by Chief Minister of Kerala. University has campuses in Mangattuparamba, Kasaragod, Thalassery, Nileshwaram, Payyannur and Mananthavady. Presently it offers 14 different courses of which 4 are post-graduate courses, 8 are under-graduate courses, and 2 certificate courses. There are around 100 of colleges that are affiliated to the Kannur University.

Festival: Arts Festival- It is cultural Youth Festival of the university in which various events like music , dance, acting, Literary and other events took place.
