• The university was founded in the year of 1980. It was set up by an Act of Karnataka State
• There are around 305 colleges affiliated to this university and it has the reputation of providing quality training and education to the students
• It has excellent faculty members and number of courses to offer. These courses are from the field of arts, commerce, fine arts, music, social sciences, technology, education and law
• The university is quite focused to enhance the knowledge, competence and creativity of the students so that they may be prepared for any kind of challenges anywhere. For that reason, the university has introduced and implemented the 'outreach model' in its education process
• The Logo Statement of the university is "Vidyeye Amrutha". The meaning of these words is “Education is Nector’’. The university has always tried to ensure the high quality education process for the students
• The university is one of the leading institutes of Hyderabad – Karnataka region. There was no higher education facility available in this region. The university was set up and it comes as a life saver “Nector” for all those people here. So the same has been conveyed in the logo of the university

Extracurricular Activities

• National Service Scheme: The Gulbarga University had a modest beginning of NSS in 1981 with a just 2700 volunteers strength. Now the sanctioned volunteers strength of Gulbarga University till the year 2005-06 was 16000.

Facilities

Library- The library of the university is well equipped with all technical facilities and it contains thousands of text and no-academic books. It has 140 workstations and all are connected to the Main frame servers. It is also equipped with CD NAS Server. Here the readers are connected in a network and can access to CD/DVD Databases, Internet, e-learning packages, full text e-resources and indigenous databases through their computers.

Hostel- The University has five boys’ hostels and three girl’s hostels. It has accommodated more than 1,100 students. The hostel is situated at the main campus. Apart for these hostels, the university has also set up Working Women Hostels for all those ladies who are doing their Post-graduation.  There are hostels for these working women in all Post-graduation Centres at Raichur, Bellary and Sandur.

Computer Center- There is Central Academic Computer Centre in the university campus and it is used by the Administrative sections and all departments of the university. It is equipped with computers and high speed internet facility.

Stadium

• The university has also set up an indoor stadium which has four courts and a well-equipped gymnasium.

• The capacity of the indoor stadium is 1750 audience. Besides, the university has various grounds and fields for different sports.
