Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences was established in the year 1993 under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam. It was established with the objective of providing service, training, and education in advanced medical sciences and technology. The college has fast developed as a leading institute in academic, research, and health care services. It aims to be a center of excellence for providing medical care, educational and research facilities of a higher order in the field of medical sciences. SVIMS has been recognized by the Medical Council of India since 2003 for conducting various graduate and postgraduate degree level courses. In 2006, the Government of India included SVIMS as one of the institutions for upgradation at par with AIIMS, New Delhi under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) scheme.
