About College
St. Xavier's College is a graduate and undergraduate college located in Kolkata, affiliated to University of Calcutta. It was founded in 1860 and named after St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit saint of the 16th century, who travelled to India. It became the first autonomous college in West Bengal and hence it is permitted to formulate its own syllabus, establish its own evaluation system, i.e. conduct exams and publish the results but the Degree Certificates will be issued by the University.
- SXC is a multi-faculty college offering UG and PG courses consisting of Science, Commerce, Arts, Education and Business Administration faculties
- The college made its first ever foreign collaboration in 2008 and entered into a tie-up with the University of Manitoba, Canada
Shifts: The college functions in three shift timings:
- Morning Session from 6:00 am - 9:30 am in B.Com, only for Boys
- Day Session from 9 am - 4:30pm in B.Ed., B.Sc. and B.A, for girls and boys
- Evening Session from 3 pm-8 pm in B.Com and B.B.A for boys and girls

Extracurricular: The college has an elected non-political student body called St. Xavier's College Student Union (SXCSU) which co-ordinates all the cultural activities on the campus. The college also has many active clubs, which are aimed at building leadership, creativity and managerial qualities in students. A list of clubs and societies are mentioned below-

Publications: College students publish many magazines every year that are widely appreciated in academic circles. Some of them are-
- XAVERIAN – It includes articles by students and staff members, who share their experiences of college. It also includes interviews with famous alumni members
- YOUTHINK – It is the annual commerce journal which includes articles from students and staff members on current commerce related issues
Festivals: St.Xavier's College has some of the best festivals at the Undergraduate level in the country-
- XAVOTSAV- It is the cultural festival of college, held annually in late January or early February. Most colleges of Kolkata are invited to participate in events like Band Performance, Neon Dance, Classical Dance, Singing etc.
- INERTIA – It is the international marketing festival, held annually in February or March. The events comprises Ambush Marketing, Ad Spoof, Brand Manager, International Trade and Crisis Management etc.
- INSIGNIA – It is the management festival, held annually in mid-February. The top ten commerce colleges of India are invited in events like Human Resource Management (HRM), Best Manager, Business Quiz, Marketing and Entrepreneurship Development.
- XAVIER'S MANAGEMENT CONVENTION (XMC) – It is the management festival, held annually in February or March. XMC is a national festival. It includes events like Stress Interview (SI), B-Quiz (BQ), Business Plans (BP) and Advertising

Ranking/Achievements:
- St. Xavier College was recognized as an “A” grade institute by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)
- In May 2006 it was declared a Centre with Potential for Excellence by the UGC
- Obtained an International Serial Number (ISSN 2347 - 6222) for Youthink journal
- It is one of India's best Commerce and Science college. It has repeatedly featured on the list of Top Three undergraduate colleges in India, in surveys conducted by both India Today and Nielsen
