About College
Government College of Technology is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai was started in July 1945. GCT offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and Doctoral programs in all major departments.
- The Government College of Technology, Coimbatore is formerly known as Arthur Hope College of Technology
- The College was renamed the College of Technology and was affiliated to the University of Madras in 1951
- Initially only Civil and Electrical Engineering branches were incepted at GCT in the year 1952
- The main building was opened by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then Vice President of India on 8th October 1959
- The five-year Semester System was introduced from 1968-69, three-year B.E. Degree course for B.Sc. was introduced 1963-64
- Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in the academic year 1970-71
- All the UG and PG courses are affiliated to the Anna University with effect from the academic year 2001-2002
- The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1994-95 and now completed its 59 fruitful years of excellence too
