School of Social Work - [SSW] managed by the Institute of Social Service of Mangalore of Karnataka State, was established in 1960 by the Society of Daughters of the Heart of Mary, an international Catholic Religious Society, founded in France in 1790 during the French Revolution. It is the pioneer in providing postgraduate programmes in social service in the state of Karnataka and has been listed as a minority institution. The dictum of “Small is Beautiful” is ardently followed by the college and they seek happiness in the glorious imperfections of the Lord. The life and teachings of Jesus Christ are well depicted in the coursework of this Catholic setup. The college ignites the minds of the students with the sufferings of the human kind and inspires them to take up innovative paths to resolve the conflicts up to a large extent. The quote of Tagore, saying “Love is made fruitful in service” has long been the driving force of the hundreds of students how flock in here, year after year with a selfless mindset to serve the humankind. The elaborately ornate atmosphere of the peaceful regime transpires a healthy pupil-teacher relationship and paves the way for holistic learning. The courses offered involve Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Work in the undergraduate division, in the post graduate genre, PG. Dept of Social Work (MSW), PG. Dept of Counseling (M.Sc. HPC) and PG. in Criminology and Forensic Science (CFSc) are offered. In addition to these courses Short term courses and IGNOU courses are also available.
