Prof. Gursewak Singh Govt. College of Physical Education, Patiala was founded in 1940 in Lahore. It was shifted from Lahore to Patiala in 1958. It is a B++ Accredited institute of northern India. It is the only college of Punjab offering courses on physical education. In 2005, the college was renamed to Prof. Gursewak Singh Govt. College of Physical Education from Govt. College of Physical Education on the name of a great sportsperson and educationist Prof. Gursewak Singh.
The college campus is spread over 25 acres. The college, with a view to have academic and sports base for Physical Education professionals, is offering different courses in physical education. The pass percentage of students is almost 100 per cent and the dropout rate is negligible. About 95% students of the college participate in Inter Collegiate Competitions, 70% in Inter University Tournaments, 15% in National Competitions and 5% in International Competitions.

What is the admission eligibility for Master of Physical Education ?
This college is affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala & approved by UGC. The admission eligibility for Master of Physical Education is Graduation and a bachelors degree obtained through the 10+2+3 system or an equivalent qualification with a minimum aggregate of 50% or equivalent CGPA of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India. A Relaxation of 5% aggregate is there for SC, ST candidates.
