MAHARSHI DAYANAND UNIVERSITY

Maharishi Dayanand University came into existence through the act of the Haryana Legislative Assembly in the year 1976. Initially, it was known as Rohtak University and it was renamed in the year 1977 as Maharshi Dayanand University in the honor of great social reformer and visionary, Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati. The University has been accredited grade ‘A+’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It attained recognition by University Grants Commission (UGC) on 16^th March 1979. Governor of Haryana is the Chancellor of the University while Mr. Rajbir Singh is the present Vice-Chancellor.

Around 263 colleges and Institutions which are located in the 7 districts of the state are affiliated to Maharishi Dayanand University. These colleges provide degrees in General education, Engineering, Technology, Computer Sciences, and Management Sciences. Besides this, the University also has three programs which are run through Satellite Institute, ‘M.D.U. Centre for Professional & Allied Studies, Gurugram’. After the Bar Council of India grants approval to the University, it plans to start LLB. (Hons.) which will be a three-year course.

LIBRARY

The University comprises a Central University, called the Vivekananda Library and satellite libraries in management, law, engineering, mathematics and hotel management. It also has departmental libraries in the sociology and history department.

The Vivekananda Library is located centrally and is a three-story, air-conditioned building covering an area of 84,000 square feet. The seating capacity of the library is 800. It is open every day of the week and the reading hall of the library is open 24*7. The library consists of around 2,50,000 volumes of books and 50,000 volumes of journals.

CAMPUS

The University is situated in Rohtak, Haryana. It is 75 Km from Delhi and about 240 km away from Chandigarh, the Capital city of Haryana. It has good connectivity by road and rail both. The University Campus is huge, covering over an area of 665.44 acres. The buildings are well built-up according to modern architecture, and the campus has a magnificent road network and scenic natural beauty. The University has 38 post-graduate departments and 11 Faculties through which education and research work is carried out.

There are around 12 teaching blocks, 19 hostels for students, a huge library called the Vivekananda Library, an state-of-art auditorium which is named as Tagore auditorium, students activity center, campus school, Health center, Sports Complex, faculty House, Multi-purpose gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Community center, Printing Press, Canteens, Shopping Complex, administrative Block, and much more.

There are also around 550 residential units on the campus which are meant for faculty members and non-teaching staff. Wi-fi is also available with a speed of 1 GB per second. Branches of State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, and Co-operative Bank are also present on the campus.
