Guru Nanak Dev University

This influential university has been named after famous Sikh saint Guru Nanak Dev , well-known as Guru Nanak Dev University. The University was established on November 24, 1969 in the name of Guru Nanak Ji on his 500th birthday. Guru Nanak Dev University is a residential as well as an affiliating university. The university promises to impart education and encouraging research in sciences, humanities, learned professions, particularly of technology, applied nature, Arts & Social Sciences, and Nature and Life Sciences.

Apart from Amritsar, Jalandhar and Gurdaspur also has Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) campuses. In the year 2003, Jalandhar got its own sprawling beautiful campus at Ladhewali Road. There are many professional, technical, and conventional courses have been introduced those are running along with courses offered in normal mode.

Three new influential professional courses were initiated in the newly established Campus:

  2. Department of Computer Science Engineering
  3. Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The main purpose of the university clearly states its idealism and vision. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was founded on November 24, in 1969. There are around 20,000 students registered in the programmes and affiliated colleges of the university. In the region, the Guru Nanak Dev University is the first one which has rolled out the feature of online admissions, online counselling for State Level Admissions and Credit-Based Evaluation System. Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar offers B.Tech, B.Sc.,B.Com (H), BBA, BA (Hons), B.Arch., LLB, B.A.LLB, BTTM, BHMCT, B.Lib., B.Planning, B.Pharm., BPES, BPEd., BPT and B.Ed courses at the UG level and offers M.Sc, M.Tech., M.Com., M,Arch.,MCA, MBA, M.Lib.,MPA,M.Planning, MHA, M.Ed. and LLM Programs at the PG level. In addition to it, the university also offers M.Phil at the Research level.

The University has 37 departments which offer courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Students can register online by obtaining the Application Form along with the Prospectus for reference via the official university website.

  • For B.Sc, B.Com(H), BA(H), BA.LLB and B.Arch, candidate must have passed class 12with min. 50% marks and 45% marks in the relevant subject.
  • For B.Tech., candidate must have passed Class 12 with min. 50% marks and must possess valid JEE Main Scores.
  • For LLB, the candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree with min. 45% marks in it.
  • For all the other UG Courses, the candidate must have passed 10+2 with the relevant subjects.
  • Admission to B.Sc., B.Tech., B.Com (H), B.A.(H), LLB and B.A. LLB will be done based on the qualifying Entrance Test.
  • For B.Arch. it will be done on the basis of NATA Score followed by Merit in the qualifying exam.
  • The minimum eligibility for M.Sc. is, the candidate must have passed graduate degree in the relevant discipline.
  • For M.Tech. the candidate must have done B.Tech./ B.E. in the relevant stream.
  • For M.Com., the candidate must have done B.Com./ BBA with min. 50% marks.
  • For MBA, the candidate must have done graduation in any stream with min. 50% marks.
  • For M.A. and M.Arch., the candidate must have done bachelor’s in the relevant field.
  • LLB with min. 50% marks in aggregate of all the three years/five years or its equivalent.
  • For all the other PG Courses, the candidate must have passed graduation in the relevant stream with the required percentage.
  • The selection criteria for all the courses under PG is, the candidate must clear the merit list of the qualifying Entrance Exam.

  • The selection of all the candidates under all the disciplines will be done on the basis of Merit in the qualifying Entrance Exam.

GNDU offers B.Sc., B.Tech, B.Com (H), B.A (H), B.Arch., LLB programs at the UG level. The min. eligibility for B.Sc. in the relevant subject is, the candidate must have passed class 12th with min. 50% marks in aggregate with 45% marks in the relevant subject. For B.Tech., the candidate must have passed Class 12th with PCME with min. 50% marks in aggregate. For B.Com. (H), B.A.(H) and B.Arch., the candidate must have passed Class 12th with min. 50% marks in aggregate and with the relevant subjects in it. The Application form has to be filled as per the steps listed below:

  • Firstly, the willing candidate has to visit the GNDU Website. On opening this page, he/she is required to click Print Bank Slip and fill in the necessary details. In this section, he/she is also required to fill in the department and course he/she is interested in.
  • Subsequently, other personal details such as name, father’s name, address , etc are to be filled in and submitted. After submitting the form, the applicant will get Bank Deposit Slip which will carry a unique Deposit ID.
  • Candidate must visit any nearest branch of State Bank of Patiala with the print out of the Bank Deposit Slip to deposit the application fee. Here, for each candidate the bank will generate a Journal ID.
  • The applicant will be given a Student copy and another, a University copy of the receipt. In case of no State Bank of Patiala branches in an area, he/she can pay the application fee through RTGS mode in any bank. For foreign students, it is mandatory to submit a $25 draft which is supposed to be payable to Registrar, GNDU Amritsar.
  • The payment updation will need two working days, after which, the applicant is required to re-visit the University website in order to get the fee deposition details verified. Using the Journal ID provided to the applicant by the bank, he/she should provide the date on which the fee submission was done. Once the validation process is completed, the candidate can submit the application form.
  • Now, the candidate has to open the Application Form using the Deposit ID and password provided earlier. All the details along with the updated fee deposition details will now appear in a set format. He/she will be required to provide a few additional details and submit the form.
  • However, at this stage, he/she must check the form very carefully for any required corrections to be made in the form because once the form is locked, there will be no scope of correcting details.
  • He/She should also update their recent passport photograph in the space allocated for this purpose in the form. This photograph must be in the jpg format and the file size should be less than 30KB
  • Once the form is Locked and Submitted, the page will generate an Application ID for each applicant. The candidate is required to get a print out of this form with the detail after previewing and should carry it to the counseling.

  2. Click on “Admission”
  3. Click on “Campus Admissions 2019-2019”
  4. Click on “Campus Admission Notice”
  5. Click on “Sign Up” then “Sign In”
  6. Click on “course registration” then fill all the necessary details in the form
  7. Make the fee payment in State Bank of India through bank challan or deposit it online.
  8. Click on “Submit”
  9. Download a hard copy of the Admit Card for future use.

Admissions: Important Points

  • Candidates who are applying for undergraduate course are required to submit a single application form for one or more courses offered in an individual stream. However, separate application forms are to be submitted for Arts and Humanities.
  • Candidates applying for post – graduate courses should submit separate application forms for more than one course.
  • The application form cost is Rs. 1200/- and Rs. 600/- for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes.
  • B.Tech./B.Arch. candidates are required to submit a one time counseling fee of Rs. 2000/-. This fee is non – refundable.
  • Candidate must understand that there is a No Transfer Policy for B.Tech. (Electronics & Communication Engineering) and B.Tech. (Computer Science & Engineering) from Regional Campus from the main campus to the regional one or from the regional one to the main campus.
  • Applicants who have studied through distance mode or are lateral entrants are required to provide an equivalency certificate at the time of admissions.
