Established in 1857 by the act of Legislative Council of British India, the University of Calcutta is amongst the Premier Universities in India. Calcutta University Admission 2020: Entrance Exam, Last Date, Application Form

There are various UG, PG, Research and Diploma level Programs offered by Calcutta University in different specializations. Application form can be filled online or offline on payment of the application fee through SBI Collect or Challan. Calcutta University offers admission in these courses under two categories, i.e. Category ‘A’ refers to CU Candidates and Category ‘B’ refers to Non-CU candidates. The admission under categories ‘A’ and ‘B’ is granted over 60% and 40% seats respectively.

  • Those students who have passed their Graduation from the Autonomous colleges of CU will be studied under Category ‘A’ for all the current year admission.
  • Non-CU candidates and those who have completed their Graduation from CU in the preceding year will be treated in Category ‘B’.
  • B.Tech admission is based on the score in WBJEE conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) followed by counselling.
  • The university conducts its own entrance exam followed by an interview at its College Street Campus and Alipore campus to offer admission in M.Tech, M.Ed., LL.M, M.Sc and M.Sc (Ag.) programs.
  • A valid GATE score is required for some selected specialization in M.Tech. Apart from GATE Score, a good GPAT score will be considered, for M.Tech in Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemical Tech.
  • At PG level, MA, M.Com and M.Li.Sc admission will be granted on the basis of marks in the qualifying examination. CAT or MAT qualified candidates are eligible to apply for MBA course.
  • At UG level, the admission to BA, B.Sc & B.Com programs is based on marks in the qualifying degree while admission to B.Li.Sc, Integrated B.Li.Sc and BA-LL.B programs is based on Admission Test conducted by the university.
  • M.Phil & Ph.D. admission is based on the score in Research Entrance Test (RET) followed by an Interview. CSIR/ UGC NET-JRF qualified candidates will be exempted from RET.

Calcutta University B.Tech & M.Tech Admission 2020

Calcutta University offers admission in B.Tech. and M.Tech. Program in various specializations. These courses are offered in Integrated, Part-Time and Lateral Entry modes. WBJEE qualified candidates are eligible to apply for B.Tech while for M.Tech program, a valid score in University Level Entrance is mandatory for Non-CU candidates. CU candidates are free to choose between entrance and merit-based admission.

M.Tech Entrance Test will consist total 50 questions of 100 marks for the duration of One hour 30 minutes. Students must note that for some specializations, a valid GATE score is mandatory.

In case of M.Tech program, CU candidates are directly eligible for admission while Non-CU candidates have to appear in the Admission Test. Students must note that in case of M.Tech in Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemical Technology, a good GPAT score will be considered in place of GATE.

Calcutta University B.Ed & M.Ed Admission 2020

Calcutta University offers admission to B.Ed & M.Ed programs for the categories of Deputed and Fresher candidates on the basis of their performance in academics. Minimum eligibility for B.Ed is a Graduation or PG degree with 50% marks in aggregate. Age should be not more than 40 years as on June 30 for Fresher candidates. There is no age limit for Deputed candidates. Age limit is relaxed up to five years for SC/ST & PWD candidates.

For M.Ed program, the minimum eligibility is a pass in B.Ed degree. Admission will be granted on the basis of University Entrance Test with special weightage to the marks in qualifying degree. M.Ed entrance test will consist of 50 MCQs of 50 marks for the duration of one hour & 30 minutes. 50% seats are reserved for Deputed and Fresher candidates each.

M.Phil. and Ph.D. Admissions in Calcutta University are based on the Research Entrance Test (RET) conducted by the university. The basic eligibility is a pass in the relevant PG degree from a recognized university. Students have to appear in total three papers for RET. Details of paper are given below:

Calcutta University M.Phil Application Process 2020:

An applicant should need to download the application form for M.Phil 2010 from the official website of theCalcutta university. Pay the application fee of INR 500 (INR 250 for SC/ST/PWD) through challan. Challan can be procured from the cash counter of Calcutta University. Application fee can also be paid through SBI Online.

Completely filled M.Phil. application form except for Library Sc., Sociology, Education, and Women Studies will be received by the Office of Secretary, UCAC (College Street Campus, CU), Room No. 3G, Asutosh Building (Ground Floor) while the application forms for Education, Sociology and Women Studies will be received by the concerned Department at the Alipur Campus, CU, 1 Reformatory Street, Kolkata – 700 027.

Calcutta University Ph.D. Application Process 2020:

The application form for Ph.D. courses can be downloaded from the official website of Calcutta University or can be obtained directly from the university admission counter on payment of INR 100 through cash Application form is required to be sent to the university along with application fee and required documents.

For Diploma courses, the admission is completely merit-based while for PG Diploma courses, a valid score in university entrance test will be considered.
