Located towards the East of the Indian mainland, West Bengal hosts a plethora of top-draw institutions, in every field of education. From engineering and management to humanities and arts, every field of study has a corresponding numero uno institution in West Bengal.

In this article, we will be narrowing our focus on private universities, more specifically seven private institutions. These Private Universities are JIS, Brainware, Amity, Adamas, Techno India, UEM and Neotia University.

Before discussing the merits and flaws of each college, it is necessary to establish a set of iron-clad factors.

The Factors

The factors we are setting are not mutually exclusive or intrinsic in nature. They are rather tools students should use to evaluate a prospective college or university.

These factors are listed below:

1. Placements

It is hard for many college aspirants to look beyond placements as a factor for choosing a college. Keeping the obvious direct monetary benefit aside, the lure of high packages has itself become more of a social phenomenon. Getting a high package is no longer just a personal milestone, but a social achievement. For this reason, many students consider placements to be the defining factor in choosing a college.

2. Student perception of a college/university

While placements can be evaluated, perception, on the other hand, cannot be given an absolute numeric value. This is because student perception is a sum total of a number of trivial factors. 

Student perception can be a considered a factor which combines all the trivialities, big and small, people generally associate college admission. In this article, we won’t be trying to give perception an absolute numeric value. We’ll instead focus on looking at student perception as a relative factor.            

3. Infrastructure

 The infrastructural capability of a college, as explained in previous articles, is the presence of any facility provided by the institution which aids in the academic development of a student. Facilities which contribute to a sound infrastructure include experienced faculties, lab facilities, accommodation, libraries and stable college environment.

4. Affordability

Affordability is a measure of how steep the fee for a college is. With the advent of private college and universities, the fee for technical and management courses such as B.Tech and MBA has increased substantially. For this reason, affordability has become a defining factor for many students.

JIS University is a private institution located in Kolkata. It was established in 2014 under the JIS University Act passed in the West Bengal State Assembly. JIS University offers across multiple disciplines such as engineering, management, science, law, pharmacy, science, and education.
