Eligibility Criteria JEE Advanced Exam

The prime concern of JEE Advanced Exam is all the candidates must fulfill each and every five mention criteria to appear in the exam.

Performance in JEE (Main): Should be among the top 2,24,000* (including all categories) in Paper-1 of JEE Main.

The category-wise percentage of shortlisted ones for JEE Advanced Exam is:

• 27% for OBC-NCL,
• 15% for SC,
• 7.5% for ST
• 50.5% is OPEN for all.

Apart from above-mentioned categories, 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD. 

Category-wise distribution of top 2,24,000* candidates

* The final number can be slightly greater than 2,24,000 in the presence of “tied” ranks/scores in any category in JEE Advanced Exam.

Age limit: Should have been born on or after October 1, in the appearing year for JEE Advanced Exam. Five years relaxation is given to SC, ST and PwD..

Number of attempts: You can attempt JEE Advanced Exam a maximum of two times in consecutive years.

Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination: Should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either examination year or pone year before that.

If Class XII board announce the results after June of two years back such as if current is 2018 then two years back is June 2016, then the student is eligible to appear in JEE Advanced Exam for current year, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria.  

Earlier IITs admission: The one who should NOT continued in any of the program of IIT OR accepted an IIT seat by reporting but was cancelled after joining any IIT are also NOT eligible to appear in JEE Advanced Exam.

Previous year students who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any IITs  can appear in JEE Advanced Exam.

The one who paid seat acceptance fee in previous year but (i) did not report at any reporting centre OR, (ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR, (iii) had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment for IITs, during the joint seat allocation are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced Exam.
