Before appearing for the CAT Exam the candidate must know about the CAT Exam Syllabus. Well! For your kind notice, IIMs don't specify any kind of syllabus for CAT Exam as such, but on the basis of previous year papers, we have prepared a list of relevant and essential topics for CAT Exam. It is a multiple- choice based exam with penalties for wrong answers.

Section 1- Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability

• Reading Comprehension
• Paragraph Summary
• Para-jumbles & Misfit sentences
• Critical Reasoning
• Paragraph Completion
• Grammar & Usage
• Vocabulary based questions (Fill in the blanks type)
• Vocabulary Topics: Synonym-Antonym based questions, Cloze Passage, Analogies or Reverse Analogies, Meaning-Usage Match, Idioms and Phrases, Secondary Shades of Meaning, Usage, Associated words, Antonyms, etc.
• Verbal Reasoning: Fact-Inference-Judgement
• Grammar: Sentence Correction (like Grammar errors, Confusing Words, & Phrasal Verbs)

Section 2- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

• Venn Diagrams, Caselets, Tables, Column Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Line Charts, Combination of two or more types linked to each other
• Games & Tournaments, Calendars, Number and Letter Series, Venn Diagrams, Cubes, Clocks, Logical Matching; Binary Logic, Logical Sequence; Seating Arrangement; Syllogism; Logical Connectives; and Blood Relations.

Section 3- Quantitative Ability

 Arithmetic (Time and Distance, Time and Work, Ratio and Proportion, Simple and Compound Interest, Quadratic Equations, Profit and Loss, Percentage, Speed, LCM & HCF)

• Geometry (Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry, Mixtures and Alligations, and Mensuration).
• Linear Equations, Logarithm, Complex Numbers, Sequences and Series, Binomial Theorem, Inequalities, Permutation and Combination, Surds and Indices, Set Theory, Probability, and Functions.
