The Diploma in Library and Information Science (DLIS) program at Lovely Professional University (LPU) includes a range of foundational and practical subjects designed to develop core skills in library management and information organization. In the first semester, students cover:BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS,BASICS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN LIS,COMMUNICATION SKILLS,LIBRARY CLASSIFICATION,LIBRARY CLASSIFICATION-PRACTICE,LIBRARY INFORMATION AND SOCIETY. In the second semester, the subjects include DEPARTMENT ELECTIVE 1(Elective courses from within the discipline, to give more depth or breadth to a student's core competencies),INFORMATION SOURCES AND SERVICES-PRACTICE, LIBRARY CATALOGUING, LIBRARY CATALOGUING: PRACTICE,LIBRARY VISIT REPORT AND VIVA VOCA, MANAGEMENT OF LIBRARIES AND INFORMATION CENTRES.
Lovely Professional University (LPU) is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to manage libraries and information systems effectively. Subject covers various types of information sources such as reference books, periodicals, journals, e-resources, and digital libraries. Students learn how to evaluate, select, and use these resources.Library professionals need to work effectively in teams and manage resources. Soft skills in these areas may also be part of the curriculum.The categorization, acquisition, and maintenance of books, periodicals, newspapers, and audiovisual materials.The program combines both theoretical and practical aspects, offering a comprehensive foundation in traditional library practices, as well as introducing students to emerging technologies and digital library management. Upon completion, students are prepared to work in a wide range of library settings, including public libraries, academic libraries, corporate libraries, and digital information management systems.
