About College

University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) was established in 2003 through the UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. UPES emerged as an innovative institution with industry-focused specialized graduate, post-graduate and doctoral programs in key areas such as Energy, Transportation, Infrastructure, Information Technology, and Legal Process.

UPES has established academic alliances with more than 100 Leading Universities across the globe. UPES has embarked on a strategic partnership with Laureate International Universities which is the world’s Largest Private Education network with a presence in 30 countries throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, South America, serving more than 800,000 students through 75 institutions.

Alumni: “Alumni Day” is held on the day UPES was born, the 2nd of September.

Conference & seminars:

• 1st Aerospace HR Round Table:  The inaugural edition of the Aerospace HR Round Table conference took place on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the prestigious Leela Palace Hotel at Bengaluru on the theme “Challenges & Opportunities for Talent Management in Aerospace Industry”.
• Innovate India 2014' hosted by UPES: UPES hosted 'Innovate India 2014’ on Campus in association with Uttarakhand State Council of Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun. The “Innovate India – 2014”, an annual event organized by the National Research and Development Council (NRDC), New Delhi, and supported by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), Govt. of India.
• International Conference on Management of Infrastructure (ICMI) 14th February 2014: International Conference on Management of Infrastructure (ICMI) received a tremendous response.

Events:

UURJA: It is the annual cultural youth festival of UPES, the event is full of vigor and energy of faculty, students, participating from various universities and Colleges Across India, and sponsors from various national and local level organizations. It is an interactive ground for dynamic youth from various universities and colleges across the country.

Co-Curricular Activities:

• UPES IGNITE: It is a blend of legal, technical, and management events. This is an entirely student-driven co-curricular event that provides multi-facet platforms to present and explore their talent across various levels and segments.
• Annual fest: The UPES SPE Fest is one of the biggest fests organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers Students Chapter in India and across the world. Recently held on 6th-9th Feb 2014, this four-day fest provided a plethora of technical events from primary fields of Petroleum Technology on Campus. Techno-carnival saw participation from 240 national and 14 international participants.
• National Law Day Celebration: It is the day when the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, was celebrated in the College of Legal Studies (COLS),(UPES) with the fervor as in previous years.
• GEMS INSTRUBLITZ: GEMS team of UPES organized an instrumental competition- ‘GEMS INSTRU-BLITZ’ for the students on campus. Students enthralled the audience by playing wonderful tunes on Guitar (Acoustic & electric), Tabla, and Keyboard.
• Kalakriti: “Kalakriti”- Your strokes, their smiles event was organized by UPES GOOGLE HUB. It focused on a creative way of spreading awareness about Google and its products with the fun of chart painting competition.
• Team Astra: The Astra”, a team consisting of six students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from UPES. The team is the first from India to take part in the Experimental Sounding Rocket Competition, an international collegiate event organized by Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA) in partnership with top aerospace companies like Lockheed Martin, NASA, ESA dated 20-23 June 2013.

Scholarship

EXCLUSIVE SCHOLARSHIP FOR ALL GIRL STUDENTS

1. 25% Scholarship on tuition fees for all girls taking admission in any of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate for 2020 Intake
2. This scholarship is applicable for the full duration of the program
3. Renewal of this scholarship is on a yearly basis
4. Minimum attendance in the previous year should not be less than 75%
5. The student should not have any disciplinary case/action

Program-specific Scholarships 

B.Tech

• Merit-Based Scholarship

1. The scholarship will be offered to students securing an aggregate of 80% marks in class X & XII & 80% marks in PCM for B.Tech (All Streams) in CBSE/ ICSE / State Examination Board. Such scholarships will be limited to 10% of seats in each B.Tech Program. Scholarships will be allotted for the first Semester in Merit order to eligible candidates.
2. Scholarships will be awarded based on Merit only. 
3. Continuation of Scholarship in the subsequent years will be as per the University policy

    Scholarship Amount

• 50% on Tuition fee of the First Semester
• Scholarship for Uttarakhand State Board Toppers:

1. Merit order allotment of 1 seat per program.
2. The seats reserved under this category will be within the 15% reservation for Uttarakhand resident students.
3. Should have “Sthai Niwas Praman Patra” (Permanent Residence Certificate)
4. Students will be entitled only to 1 scholarship at a time (either through Uttarakhand Board Toppers or through Uttarakhand Resident category)
5. Scholarship in subsequent years will be as per the merit scholarship policy of the University

Scholarship Amount

• 25% of a tuition fee waiver for Boys and 35% for Girl students in the first year
• Special Scholarship

BBA

• Merit-Based scholarship:

50% tuition fee waiver on 10% seats of each program in the first semester for CBSE, ICSE & State board pass out students

• 150 toppers from UK State Board

• The seats reserved under this category will be within the 15% reservation for Uttarakhand Domicile students.
• Should have “Sthai Niwas Praman Patra” (Permanent Residence Certificate)
• Students will be entitled only to 1 scholarship at a time (either through Uttarakhand Board Toppers or through Uttarakhand Domicile category)

LLB

• Merit-Based Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria: 75% marks in class X & XII

Scholarship:

Eligibility criteria

• Minimum 80% marks in each of X, XII class and PCM for B.Tech and 80% aggregate for BBA and Law in Class X & XII in UK State Board

MBA

Eligibility & Scholarship criteria

• Minimum 80 percentile score in CAT/XAT
• Minimum 90 percentile score in MAT, NMAT, UPESMET & any other National Level Entrance Test.
• 10% seats in each program for 25% tuition fee waiver in 1st semester

Fellowship for M.Tech Students

1. GATE SCHOLARSHIP: *

Scholarship @ Rs. 12,400/- per month for Students having 70 percentile and above in GATE. 

2. RESEARCH GRANT: **

All Students will also be eligible to avail a grant up to a sum of Rs. 50,000/- towards outcome-based research as per rules & regulations framed for the purpose by the University.

*GATE Scholarship

Students admitted to M. Tech program in the academic session 2020-21 with valid GATE score 70 percentile and above will be considered for scholarship @ Rs. 12,400/- per month during their period of registration with the University.

To become eligible for the continuance scholarship in subsequent semesters, the students are required to have 

• earned minimum SGPA / CGPA of 8.0 in each semester

• passed every semester examination in the first attempt besides maintaining regular attendance, discipline, exemplary behavior and compliance with all other norms as prescribed by the University from time to time
